It WOULD be cool to have one map, but a bit messy. Not for Elona maybe, but for Catha, because it is not attached to Tyria unlike Elona.
A better solution, as many have suggested is clicking on the boats and selecting the map. no load screens. or, at the top of the map is a bar with all the maps on it. Heck, even a drop down would work.

There is a lot of things I rather see them do first before adding this. It's not hard to click. If your computer is SO slow that it's SUCH a problem then maybe Guild Wars isn't for you. There is always um Runescape. At least we have the lux or click travel which a lot of other online roleplaying games can not say the same.

I dont like how you phrased that. Very unkind and unsympathetic. its not their fault they dont have a good PC. And maybe the lag is only in load screens? my friends pc is like that (Which is why he doesnt play GW anymore...) GW isnt for you if you hate load screens, the gameplay, etc. Not because you dont have a very good computer. A more reasonable suggestion is getting an upgrade .

/Agreed, but not for one big map. Let us toggle between the maps when we press the M button

I dont think Anet wants to reveal how big the world is.
^_^
/not signed on a big big map. I thought we were trying to speed up, not slow down.
<conjecture>
I dont know how Anet's systerm works, but i would think they seperated the various games via servers. Jumping from one game server to another directly to a specific district in a specific town will not result in less lag. Just less clicks.
</conjecture>

3 clicks, causes this much crying?
Go buy some RAM for your ancient computer already, jeez. Your crappy computer isnt Anet's problem.

It goes beyond just the irritation of 3 clicks into laggy cities, it also goes with losing party members when mapping from Cantha to Elona.
The best solution is to click the boat to load the map of that section of the world, depending on your choice and then being able to choose your city from there.

is really that difficult to click 3 times?

Yes
By the same token is it very difficult for their programmers to bring up the respective campaign map letting you select the actual destination portal you want before actually porting you?

yes because u get totally spammed with WTS messages on your screen and other random stuff since these places are all the hot spots of trading unless u happen to have ur local and trade channels turned off which is annoying to have to turn off, map, map again, turn back on so u can see the local chat again.
/signed although i do agree map cycling on the M screen would be more effectve than one big map since its allows less work for Anet, is more practical for lower spec pcs and wouldnt up set the cartographer system (well unless the new large map was a seperate map from the M key map) Or even a 3 tier zoom instead of 2 tier, where its like the same as current, but u can zoom out a 3rd time where it shows the current world map and u choose which continent u want to go to.

If when you press 'M' it shows you mini version of every map you own, like a collection of photos. You could quickly expand one, close it, expand the other, close it, until you find the location you want.
Click it and go.
At current you would have a max of 4 maps; Tryia, Cantha, Elon and Battle Isles.
So imagine 4 mini maps shown on screen as small square. Choose the one to expand and then enter the town you want.
It would make sense, because if you imagine your character must be carrying all these maps around somewhere, so all your really doing is laying these maps out to choose one.
I dont want them to all be merged together, because then you would have a stupidly large map to zoom in and out of.
Or alternatively just have a next button at the top of the map, to show the next map in succession, or a pull down bar to select the continent to show. Then select your location to travel to.
It would be very easily done.

It is sometimes worse than 3 now.
Abaddon's Gate -> Mouth of Torrment -> Lion's Arch -> Augury Rock (-> Correct district to meet you party)
4 loading screens
That can sometimes take quite a while, on dial-up it would be incredibily annoying.

this is what i would love as well. for the most part my load time in areas i have already visited is pretty quick but i have been known to have laggy days and new areas can take minutes even tho i'm on cable. i know others must have troubles loading that many areas just to grab a skill or piece of armor. what a pain!

If there was a "page system" in place that would benefit us all i recon, pressing M would open up the map your currently
in but in the top right or left corner you would have a tab for switching areas maybe? that could be the best idea really...
